CTPCLC NUS

Partners

Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Centre collaborates with a wide range of community organisations on varying issues. Our community partners include, but are not limited to, voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), foundations, government agencies, and social enterprises.

We welcome the following types of collaborations:

Community research practicums

One of the courses that we offer is the Community Development Practicum (CLC2203). The practicum provides our student fellows the opportunity to gain in-depth insight into complex community and social issues in Singapore by engaging in field research with a partner organisation.

The type of field research undertaken is dependent on the partner organisation, and varies from social impact assessment to programme evaluation to community mapping. See our publications for examples of the types of research projects undertaken by our students. Our faculty members will typically work with partners to scope the research project.

Research Collaborations

Research work sometimes cannot be undertaken within a short period. We will be happy to have a conversation with you to see how we can establish long-term research collaborations that have longer-lasting impact on the community

Our student fellows often go on internship during their holidays (mid-May to mid-August, December). Community partners interested in hiring our student fellows for internships are more than welcome to contact us.

Other engagements (e.g. events, speaking engagements, volunteering)

We are open to working with community partners in other capacities as well. This includes having community partners speak at our events or in class, attending our annual symposium, as well as having our students volunteer for partners’ events.

Please feel free to contact us at ctpclc@nus.edu.sg if you wish to partner with us in any capacity. We will be happy to work together with you to make a difference.

Some of our community partners include:

MOHT-2

"MOH Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT) collaborated with Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Centre (CTPCLC) in a project to design solutions for elderly patients in Queenstown who require help in accessing and navigating care post discharge. CTPCLC students carried out 2 studies. The first involved longitudinal research with patients over 3 months to derive an in-depth understanding of patients’ healthcare journeys from hospital to home. The second focused on understanding the elderly patients’ technology adoption appetite and capacity. Both studies provided valuable information on the challenges faced by the elderly as well as their help-seeking behaviours. These insights inform care providers in developing solutions that are useful, relevant and pitched appropriately to the levels of patients’ ability and willingness to accept care. This is aligned with MOHT’s goal to design solutions starting from the needs of real users, and an approach to implementation that involves providers, healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers at all stages of the care journey."

DementiaSG

"In our efforts to build an inclusive dementia-friendly community in Kebun Baru and Ang Mo Kio, Angeline and her team of students from CTPCLC assisted us in several ground-sensing projects to uncover what it means to be dementia-friendly from both the residents' and businesses' point of view. The entire process from the scoping of projects, to recruitment of students, all the way to the presentation of the survey findings to community partners was clear and pleasant, and Angeline and the students did their best to support us all the way. It is personally very inspiring and motivating to encounter students and lecturers so vested and committed to make meaningful contributions to our community."

ISCOS-2

"The team from CTPCLC and ISCOS have many years of good partnership. We have engaged a number of students to work on few projects with us. The students are passion driven, dedicated and always ready to go the extra miles to achieve their project."
